Indians take down Northeast, 5-1

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College defeated Northeast Mississippi Community College, 5-1 in a non-conference game Tuesday.

The Indians (8-3) fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first, but that's the only run that Ben Davis (Boonville) and Matt Bourdon (Collierville, Tenn.) would give up on their way to the win and the save.

Davis struck out seven as Northeast scattered seven hits over five and a third innings and Bourdon completed the five out save while holding the Tigers hit-less and striking out one.

With the pitchers keeping the Tigers off the board, the Indians pick up key hits on their way to the win.

Bo Rock (Amory) gave the Indians the lead on a two-run scoring single in the bottom of the first, and Matthew Martinolich (Ellisville) extended the lead to 3-1 on a RBI single in the second.

Will Verdung (Corinth) hit a two-run home run in the fourth to score the game's final runs and held secure the win for the Indians.

The Indians are scheduled to host Bevill State Community College Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. at Roy Cresap Field, in what will be their final home stand before conference play begins March 11 in Fulton.
