Indians fall to Hinds on walk off

Raymond, Miss. – In the final game of the non-conference tripleheader at Hinds Community College, Itawamba Community College suffered a heartbreaking 9-8 loss on a walk off home run by the hosting Eagles Tuesday night.

The Indians (5-2) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Gray Bane (Olive Branch) and Jackson Lee (Calhoun City), and extended the lead to 4-0 in the second on a RBI single by Will Verdung (Corinth) and a solo home run by Bo Rock (Amory).

However, the lead was short lived as Hinds scored six runs in the bottom of the third highlighted by a grand slam.

Trailing 6-4, the Indians quickly got one run back as Verdung singled to pick up his second RBI of the game and cut the lead to 6-5 in the fourth.

The Indians tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth on a Hinds error with the bases loaded, but in the bottom half of the inning, the Eagles took a 7-6 lead on a run-scoring double.

With the Indians down to their final three outs, Lee hit a leadoff solo home run to left to tie the game, and the Indians took an 8-7 lead as Eli Hancock (Houston) scored on an error.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Indians recorded one quick out, but the Eagles had a runner reach on an error and followed with a two-run home run to left to pick up the 9-8 win.

Friday, the Indians are scheduled to travel to USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. to face National Park College at Noon and Kaskaskia College at 5 p.m.
