Indians split with No. 20 Jones

Fulton, Miss. – Itawamba Community College earned a split with No. 20 Jones in the MACCC opener Friday.

The Indians (7-7) took game one from the Bobcats with a 3-2 walk-off win but dropped a 9-1 decision in game two.

Game 1: Indians 3, Bobcats 2

Jones took a 2-0 lead after scoring one run in both the second and third innings and held the Indians scoreless for eight innings. However, the Indians got the hits the needed in the bottom of the ninth.

After a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt, Drew Capobianco (Saltillo) hit a double to score both runners and tie the game at 2-2.

Eli Hancock (Houston) followed with a single to the left side of the infield that allowed Capobianco to beat the throw home and give the Indians the walk-off victory.

Game 2: Bobcats 9, Indians 1

Jones jumped out on the Indians early again in the game tow and led 5-0 after the first two innings.

After Jones extended their lead to 6-0, the Indians scored their first run of the game in the sixth on a Taylor Tarver (Oxford) drove in Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) who tripled off the wall.

In the top of the seventh, Jones added three runs to pick up the 9-1 win and earn the split.

The Indians will host Northwest, who is coming off a road split with No. 2 Pearl River, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Fulton.
