Indians split with Rend Lake

Fulton, Miss. – ICC earned a split with Rend Lake College Saturday winning game one 15-5 in six innings and dropping game two, 4-1.

Game 1: Indians 15, Warriors 5 (6-innings)

The Indians (6-6) trailed for most of the game, but scored 13 runs in the bottom of the sixth to not only take the lead, but end the game in run-rule fashion.

Rend Lake took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and held that lead until the Indians pushed across two runs in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead. The Warriors would then score two runs in both the fifth and sixth and ICC trailed 5-3.

Bryce Capobianco (Saltillo) started the bottom of the sixth with a single and later doubled to score two runs in the same inning for two of his four hits in the contest.

Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) drove in three runs on a bases loaded double and the Indians took scored additional runs on errors, batters hit by pitch and a ground out. However, Will Verdung (Corinth) with secure the win for the Indians with three-run home run.

Game 2: Warriors 4, Indians 1

The Indians started with an early lead as Meeks led off with a triple off the wall and scored on a sacrifice fly by Verdung.

Rend Lake didn't trail for long though as they scored three runs on two hits and two errors in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead.

The Indians were held to only three hits in the final six innings and fell 4-1 after Rend Lake added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Next up for the Indians is their final nonconference doubleheader on Tuesday when Calhoun visits Roy Cresap Field with game one scheduled for 2 p.m.
