No. 16 Indians sweep Gulf Coast in region qualifier

Fulton, Miss. – For the second game in a row, the Indians used a big fifth inning to complete the postseason sweep of Gulf Coast to earn a spot in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.

The Indians (25-13) took an early 2-0 lead in the first as Kylan Carter (Houston) doubled in a run and Bailey Allbritton (Duck Hill) drove in another run with a single.

However, the Indians extended their lead to 8-0 with a six run fifth inning that was sparked by a solo home run from Lane Domino (Fulton).

In the big inning, Connar Gardner (Southaven), Bryce Capobianco (Saltillo) and Allbritton picked up an RBI each, and Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) drove in two runs on a double.

Gulf Coast picked up their lone run of the game in the seventh, but a Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) single in the eighth ended the contest, giving the Indians the 9-1 win and the sweep.

With the Indians' bats producing runs, sophomore pitcher Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) went the distance and held the Bulldogs to one run and eight hits while striking out seven.

The Indians advance to the NCJAA Region 23 Tournament for the third consecutive season and await who their opening round opponent will be.
