Pair of big innings lead Indians to sweep of Mississippi Delta

Fulton, Miss. – A five-run inning in both games Wednesdays propelled the Indians to the sweep of Mississippi Delta taking game one, 7-2, and game two, 7-6.

Game 1: Indians 7, Trojans 2

A two-out, two-run double in the third by Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) sparked a five-run inning to swing momentum in favor of the Indians and lead to a 7-2 victory.

After two scoreless frames, the Indians put two runners in scoring position when Meeks doubled, scoring both runs to give the Indians a 2-0 advantage. Meeks then scored on a single from Drew Capobianco (Saltillo).

Lane Domino (Fulton) then capped off the big inning with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 5-0.

With the early lead, Brady Davis (Hamilton) settled in on the mound and threw six and a third innings allowing only five hits and a pair of runs.

A run scoring single by Kylan Carter (Houston) in the sixth and a RBI double by Hayden Harris (Pontotoc) in the eighth capped off the Indians scoring.

Davis picked up the win to improve to 2-0 this season.

Game 2: Indians 7, Trojans 6

The Indians found themselves in a hole early as the Trojans jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and extended it to 4-1 in the second with a solo home run by Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) accounting for the lone Indian run. However, just like game one, the Indians put together a five-run frame in the third to take the lead.

A run-scoring single by Harris started the big inning, followed by a single by Tyler Murphy (Columbus) that plated two runs and tied the game at 4-4.

Meeks then put the Indians out front with a RBI single to center and Bailey Allbritton (Duck Hill) followed with a single to center of his own to push the lead out to 6-4.

The Indians picked up an insurance run in the sixth when Harris reached on an error. The insurance run proved to be big for the Indians as the Trojans rallied to score two runs in the top of the seventh. However, Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) came in to preserve the one run lead and victory by retiring the only batter he faced to pick up the save.

Collin Babin (Ponchatoula, La.) picked up the win to improve to 2-1 this season.

The Indians will host Hinds for another conference doubleheader this Saturday at Roy Cresap Field with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
