Indians sweep Holmes

Fulton, Miss. – After an unexpected break in the season due to snow and ice, the Indians finally swung back into action Tuesday hosting Holmes. Game one was a tight battle with the Indians winning 3-2 on a bases loaded wild pitch and the taking game two 12-2 that also ended on a wild pitch.

Game 1: Indians 3, Bulldogs 2

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh of a tie game, the Indians (4-4) were able to pick up the walk off win when Terris Meeks (Olive Branch) scored from third on the errant pitch.

Earlier in the contest, Holmes, who is coached by former ICC standout Scott DeLoach, had some timely hits to take a 1-0 lead in the top half of the third. However, the lead wouldn't last long as Kylan Carter (Houston) doubled to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third.

The Indians took a 2-1 advantage when Connar Gardner (Southaven) scored on a Drew Capobianco (Saltillo) sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Once again, the lead wouldn't last long as Holmes tied the contest in the fifth on a solo home run.

Brady Davis (Hamilton) started the game for the Indians and didn't get the decision but struck out seven in four and two thirds' innings of work, and Will Armistead (Mooreville) and Caleb Goddard (Tupelo), who picked up the win, came in from the pen to keep the game in reach.

Game 2: Indians 12, Bulldogs 2 (6-innings)

Unlike game one, runs were scored quick and often. The Indians jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs in the opening frame. Tyler Murphy (Columbus) drove in the game's first run, and Bailey Allbritton (Duck Hill) doubled to drive in three runs.

Holmes was able to answer with a run in the second, but Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.), Hayden Harris (Pontotoc) picked up and RBI each in the follow inning to extend the lead to 6-1 after two frames.

In the third, Bryce Capobianco (Saltillo) scored on a dropped fly ball and Jonathan Whittington (Columbus) scored on a wild pitch to push the Indian's lead to 8-1.

The teams exchanged runs in the fifth, with Jacob Melendez (Oxford) driving in a run with a single.

Leading 9-2, the Indians were able to push across three runs in the sixth to pick up the run-rule victory.
The Indians will open conference play Saturday with a doubleheader at No. 12 Jones. First pitch from Ellisville is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
