Indians split with No. 11 Northeast in home opener

Fulton, Miss. – The Indians and Northeast renewed their rivalry for the second time this season and played a pair of tight games with the Indians taking game one 15-13 and the Tigers taking game two 2-1.

Game 1: Indians 15, Tigers 13

The Indians overcame a seven run deficit, 11-4, and completed their comeback with a two-run walk off blast from Hayden Harris (Pontotoc) to pick up the 15-13 victory.

Scoring came early and often with both teams plating a run in the opening frame and Lane Domino (Fulton) hitting a three-run home run in the second gave the Indians a 4-2 advantage. However, Northeast answered in the top of the third scoring five runs and then extended the lead to 11-4 with a four run fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Indians rallied for seven runs to tie game and Kylan Carter (Houston) got things started with a two-run single followed by a three-run home run from Tyler Murphy (Columbus) that cut the lead to 11-9.

A RBI pinch hit double by Mack Scruggs (Tupelo) and a RBI single by Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) tied the game at 11-11.

The Indians took a 13-11 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double by Connar Gardner (Southaven), but the Tigers answered with two-runs of their own with a two-out rally in the top of the seventh.

With extra innings looming, Harris stepped up and hit the two-run game-winning home run to give the Tribe the slugfest victory.

Game 2: Tigers 2, Indians 1

The second game was the complete opposite from the first with both squads struggling to push runs across the plate.

Domino started things offensively for the Indians with a leadoff triple and later scored the lone run of the contest for the Indians on a ground ball.

Northeast tied the game in the top of the third and took the lead in the fifth on a triple and base hit combo.

The Indians had the tying run on third with no outs in the bottom of the sixth but was unable to push the runner across to tie the game.

Northeast was able to hold off the Indians in the final frame as well and pick up the 2-1 win and split the day.

The Indians will have a week off from games with their next schedule doubleheader set for Wednesday, Feb. 17 against Northwest. The First American National Bank first pitch from Fulton is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and is scheduled to be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
