Indians split at Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD, Miss. – The Indians split a non-conference doubleheader with Mississippi Delta on Wednesday.

Game 1: Indians 10, Trojans 2

The Indians picked up their first win of the season with a 10-2 victory in the opening game of the day.

ICC open things up with a five-run fourth inning.  Hayden Harris (Pontotoc) scored when Eli Hancock (Houston) was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. Kylan Carter (Houston) scored on a balk before Lane Domino (Fulton) drove in Bailey Allbritton (Duck Hill) and Hancock on a line drive to right field. Connar Gardner (Southaven) put the fifth run on the board in a double steal situation before the Trojans could get out of the inning.

The Indians added a pair of runs in the fifth on a double by Gardner and a single by Drew Capobianco (Saltillo). Riley Davis (Collierville, Tenn.) scored on the second bases-loaded balk of the game before Carter drove in Harris on a grounder to center field in the sixth.

Carter and Davis each had a pair of hits in the Indians' 10-hit performance.

Brady Davis (Hamilton) picked up the win after striking out six, walking zero and allowing no runs in five innings of work.

Game 2: Trojans 4, Indians 2

The Indians fell behind 3-0 in the second and couldn't come up with timely hits late in the game to complete the rally in a 4-2 loss to the Trojans in the nightcap.

Davis reached on an infield single to start the fourth inning before scoring on a double to left by Harris. Bryce Capobianco (Saltillo) ripped a single to center to push across Harris before the Trojans could get out of the inning.

A bang-bang play out call at first on a ground ball to third erased a run off the board for the Indians in the sixth.

Davis went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the game.

Collin Babin (Ponchatoula, La.) was the pitcher of record after giving up three earned runs on four hits with four strike out in four and a third innings on the mound.
