Five Indians earn postseason honors

FULTON, Miss. – Five Itawamba Community College baseball players have earned postseason honors following a successful 2019 season.

Houston Harding (Walls) and Justin Medlin (Ripley) earned First Team All-State honors from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC), and Harding was also named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region 23 Team.

Harding, a Mississippi State University signee, went 10-0 in 14 appearances last season with a 2.62 ERA. The lefthander threw 86 innings for the Indians with a team-best 90 strikeouts. He will also be eligible for NJCAA All-American honors.

Medlin was an everyday player for the Indians, splitting time at first base and pitching. The Middle Tennessee State University signee hit .306 with 45 RBI, 13 doubles, one triple and had a team-best 10 home runs. On the mound, the lefthander went 7-1 and led the team with a 2.48 ERA.

Brett Coker (Hendersonville, Tenn.), Jackson Lancaster (Corinth) and Austin Powell (Star City, Ark.) were named to the MACJC All-State Second Team.

Coker hit .351 with 32 RBI during his freshman campaign and led the team in doubles with 14.

Lancaster led the Indians in hits (69), triples (5), RBI (47), stolen bases (17), batting average (.369), on-base percentage (.572) and total bases (107). The University of Missouri signee also was a standout on the mound with a 2.36 ERA and 47 strikeouts. Lancaster was recently drafted by the Seattle Mariners, but will remain a student-athlete and continue his career for the Tigers next season.

Powell, an Ole Miss commit and the Indians' game one catcher, hit .326  with 24 RBI, seven doubles and four home runs.

The five players helped the Indians to a 41-8-1 record, No. 2 national ranking, MACJC Championship and host of the Region 23 Tournament.
