CLARKSDALE, Miss. – The fourth ranked Indians went on the road and swept Coahoma with an 11-2 game one run-rule victory and battled to pick up a 7-4 win in game two.
Game 1: Indians 11, Coahoma 2 (7-innings)
The Indians (33-6-1, 18-4 MACJC) scored six runs in the second after falling behind 1-0 in the opening frame. A two-run single by Justin Medlin (Ripley) and a RBI double by Brett Coker (Hendersonville, Tenn.) highlighted the inning. Kyle Crigger (Corinth) drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, Russell Bunch (Saltillo) reached on an error to plate a run and Jackson Lancaster (Corinth) drew a walk with the bases juiced.
Lancaster followed with an RBI single in the following frame to stretch the Indians lead to 7-1 before he and Bunch both hit two-run home runs in the fifth to take an 11-1 advantage.
Coahoma would answer with a run in the bottom of the fifth, and after two scoreless innings, the Indians picked up the 11-2 run-rule victory.
Medlin threw all seven innings and improves to 5-1 this season.
Game 2: Indians 7, Coahoma 4
The Indians struck early with Crigger and Lancaster hitting back-to-back doubles in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Lane Domino (Fulton) starting the second inning with a solo home run to give the Indians a 2-0 lead.
After two scoreless innings, the Indians scored five runs in the fifth and got their first of the frame on a double by Domino. The Indians then scored two runs on a trio of walks, including two with the bases loaded. Lancaster reached on a fielder's choice that allowed the fourth run of the frame to score and Coker wrapped up the scoring with another bases loaded walk.
Trailing 7-0, Coahoma rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth on three hits and two walks to cut the Indians lead to three, 7-4.
Coahoma would put two runners on with two outs in the seventh, but Crigger came in an forced a ground out to give the Indians the win and the sweep.
Hunter Hughes (Saltillo) picked up the win to improve to 5-1 and Crigger grabbed his third save this season.
The Indians remain first in the conference with a two game lead heading into Saturday's doubleheader with Hinds in Fulton scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
