DECATUR, Miss. – After rain and thunderstorms pushed the conference doubleheader from Saturday to Monday, the Indians bats provided their own thunder as they scored 38-runs in 12 innings defeating East Central 12-4 and 26-7 in a pair of run-rule victories.
Game 1: Indians 12, East Central 4 (7-innings)
Justin Medlin (Ripley) blasted two home runs in the contest with his first being a two-run shot in the top of the fifth followed by a three-run bomb in the sixth.
Before Medlin's big hits, Jackson Lancaster (Corinth) drove in the game's first run after four scoreless frames with a double to left and Lane Domino (Fulton) hit a two-run scoring single with two-outs to give the Indians a 5-0 lead after five.
The Indians (27-5-1, 13-3 MACJC) plated seven runs in the sixth with LaBryant Siddell (Belden) and Kyle Crigger (Corinth) picking up an RBI each and Austin Powell (Star City, Ark.) scoring on an error to accompany Medlin's three run home run.
East Central scored one run in the fifth and three in the sixth, but the Indians' lead was too big to overcome as they picked up the 12-4 run-rule victory in seven innings.
Houston Harding (Walls) improved to 8-0 this season as he threw all seven innings and struck out 10.
Game 2: Indians 26, East Central 7 (5-innings)
The Indians stayed hot in the nightcap as they scored eight runs in the opening frame highlighted by a two-run home run by Medlin. Siddell singled home a run and Lancaster picked up two RBI with a single of his own. Domino and Powell scored on wild pitches and Lancaster scored on a passed ball in the big inning.
Medlin led off the second inning with a solo home run, his fourth round tripper of the day, and Russell Bunch (Saltillo) completed the five run inning with a grand slam to extend the Indians lead to 13-0.
After East Central scored three runs in the bottom of the second, Domino got in on the home run parade with a two-run bomb to left in the third.
East Central hit a three run home run in the bottom of the frame to which the Indians answered with a three run inning of their own in the fourth.
The Indians would then put up seven additional runs in the fifth on their way to the 26-7 run-rule victory and the sweep.
With all the run support, Austin King (Fulton) picked up the win to improve to 5-1 this season.
No rest for the Indians as they host No. 15 Northwest Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Fulton.
