No. 6 Indians split on the road with Southwest Mississippi

SUMMIT, Miss. – In their longest road trip of the regular season, the Indians earned a split with Southwest Mississippi, winning game one 12-1 in eight-innings and falling 3-2 in game two.

Game 1: Indians 12, Southwest Mississippi 1 (8-innings)

Southwest Mississippi took a 1-0 lead after the opening frame, and held the slim lead for two innings. However, the Indians (24-5-1, 9-3 MACJC) would score 12 unanswered to pick up the run-rule win.

Run scoring singles by Jackson Lancaster (Corinth) and Kyle Crigger (Corinth) in the third put the Indians up by one, 2-1, and Austin Powell (Star City, Ark.) added a run to the lead with a solo home run in the fourth.

Crigger picked up his second RBI in the game with a single later in the fourth.

In the sixth, the Indians would push two runs across as Lane Domino (Fulton) and Crigger picked up an RBI each on sacrifice fly balls.

With a 6-1 lead, the Indians would explode for six runs in the top of the eight, highlighted by a two-run scoring double by Russell Bunch (Saltillo). LaBryant Siddell (Belden) and Crigger added run each on RBI singles.

Houston Harding (Walls) closed out the game in the eighth to give the Indians the run-rule victory and improve to 7-0 this season.

Game 2: Southwest Mississippi 3, Indians 2

After three scoreless innings, Southwest Mississippi took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, but the Indians quickly tied the game on a Ray Sandroni (Tupelo) sacrifice fly in the fifth.

The Indians took the lead in the sixth as Brett Coker (Hendersonville, Tenn.) hit a two-out double down the line to score Siddell. However, the Bears got a two-out hit of the own to tie the game at 2-2 after six innings.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the Indians committed an error that allowed the winning run to score and split the conference doubleheader.

The Indians will face Northeast Wednesday in Booneville for a rivalry conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
