No. 13 Indians sweep East Mississippi

FULTON, Miss. – After falling one spot in the rankings, the Indians swept East Mississippi taking game one 6-1 and game two 11-8.

Game 1: Indians 6, East Mississippi 1

It was a slow start offensively for both teams, but the Indians (16-2-1, 3-1 MACJC) manufactured a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by Lane Domino (Fulton), but neither team would plate another run until the sixth.

In the sixth, it was Domino who extended the Indians lead as he doubled down the right field line to score two runs. Brett Coker (Hendersonville, Tenn.) added a run on a sacrifice fly to put the Indians up 4-0.

East Mississippi pushed across their first run of the game in the eighth, but the Indians answered with two in the bottom of the inning to pick up the 6-1 win.

Justin Medlin (Ripley) picked up his second win of the season as he threw seven shutout innings and struck out nine.

Game 2: Indians 11, East Mississippi 8

East Mississippi jumped out to an early lead scoring three runs in the opening frame, but the Indians answered with a four-run fourth as Domino scored on a groundout and Kyle Crigger (Corinth) blasted a three-run home run.

The 4-3 lead wouldn't last as East Mississippi scored two runs in the third and one the fifth to take a 6-4 advantage. However, in the bottom of the fifth the Indians score five runs highlighted by a two-out single to score two runs by Crigger and put the Tribe on top 9-6.

East Mississippi pulled within one, 9-8, with a two-run sixth, but a two-out, two-run scoring single by Ray Sandroni (Tupelo) gave the Indians the 11-8 win.

The Indians will host No. 4 Pearl River Saturday in a conference twin bill scheduled for 2 p.m.
