No. 10 Indians split with Holmes

FULTON, Miss. – The No. 10 Itawamba Community College Indians earned a split with Holmes Community College, winning game one 8-0 and falling 7-3 in game two.

Game 1: Indians 8, Holmes 0 (7-innings)

The Indians (19-4-1, 6-2 MACJC) got some big power hits from Kyle Crigger (Corinth) and Russell Bunch (Saltillo) as they both went yard and accounted for three runs of the Tribe's eight runs.

Crigger's home run was a solo shot to left in the fourth and Bunch followed with his two-run bomb in the fifth.

Austin Powell (Star City, Ark.) hit a powerful RBI double in the seventh for the Indians other extra base hit.

The Indians plated their other four runs on an RBI single by Jackson Lancaster (Corinth), Bunch scoring on a balk call and Crigger pushed across a pair of runs on a sacrifice fly and a ground out.

Justin Medlin (Ripley) allowed only two-hits while striking out nine in seven innings of work to improve to 3-0.

Game 2: Holmes 7, Indians 3

LaBryant Siddell (Belden) hit a solo home run in the first and Lancaster tripled off the centerfield wall and picked up a RBI in the third to give Indians an early 2-0 lead. However, Holmes erased the lead with a two-run home run to knot the game at 2-2.

The Bulldogs (21-5, 4-4 MACJC) took the lead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly, and then added four runs in the seventh to take a five run, 7-2, lead.

In the bottom half of the seventh, the Indians were able to score a run as Lane Domino (Fulton) scored on a groundout but were unable to rally to tie the game, falling 7-3.

The Indians are scheduled to travel to Ellisville Saturday for a conference doubleheader with No. 2 Jones College beginning at 2 p.m., but predicted rain could force the game to be rescheduled.
