BOAZ, Ala. - The No. 15 Indians split a non-conference doubleheader at Snead State after dropping game one 10-8 and rebounding to win game two 10-1 on Thursday.
Game 1: Snead State 10, Indians 8
Snead State used a five-run fifth inning to rally for a 10-8 win in the first game of the day.
The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Brett Coker (Hendersonville, Tenn.) doubled and scored on a double by Hayden Palmer (Saltillo). The Parsons answered with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.
ICC answered with five runs in the top of the third inning.
LaBryant Siddell (Tupelo) singled and scored on a one-out double to right by Justin Medlin (Ripley) to take a 2-1 advantage. Russell Bunch (Saltillo) drew a walk before Medlin scored when Coker reached on an error. Bunch, Coker, and Palmer all scored on wild pitches to give the Indians a 6-1 lead before the Parson could get out of the inning.
Snead State chipped away with a pair of runs in the bottom of third and fourth innings to make it a 6-5 game in favor of the Indians.
Austin Powell (Star City, Ark.) blasted a two-run homer to left-center to push the Indians lead out to 8-5 before the Parsons hung five on the board in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-8 advantage.
The Indians put the tying run on base in the sixth and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but couldn't spark a two-out rally in either inning allowing the Parsons to pick up the come-from-behind win.
Palmer went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double. The Indians had nine hits and three errors in the loss.
Game 2: Indians 10, Snead State 1
The Indians rebounded from the Game 1 loss in impressive fashion to earn a split with a 10-1 win the in nightcap.
Snead State held on to a 1-0 lead after one complete, but three-straight walks opened the door for Lane Domino (Fulton) to tie the game with a two-out single to plate Ray Sandroni (Tupelo) in the top of the second.
The Indians took a 2-1 lead when Jacob Hall (Petal) doubled to center to score Siddell, who reached on an error to start the top of the third. Medlin and Hall scored on a double by Bunch to take a 4-1 advantage with no outs in the inning. Bunch scored on a passed ball before the Parsons could get out of the inning.
Hall scored when Braden Ellis (Saltillo) drew a bases-loaded walk in the fourth. Bunch scored on a single by Jackson Lancaster (Corinth) before the second bases-loaded walk of the inning scored Sandroni to put the Indians up 8-1.
The Indians put the game away with a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 10-1 lead before the game was called due to darkness after the sixth.
Bunch went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs and three RBI. Lancaster went 2-for-3 with a RBI. The Indians manufactured 10 runs on 11 hits.
Hunter Hughes (Walls) surrendered one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings to pick up the win. Jonathan Weeks (Pontotoc) struck out two and walked one in one inning of relief duty.
ICC will be back in action on Tuesday, March 12 when they travel to Fayette, Ala. to face Bevill State in its final warm-up before opening conference play at Meridian on Saturday.
