Indians rally to sweep Calhoun

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians trailed in both games Saturday but were able to rally to sweep Calhoun with a 3-1 win in game one and walk off winner in the 3-2 game two extra innings affair.

Game 1: Indians 3, Calhoun 1

The Indians (8-1-1) fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third but a RBI single by Jacob Hall (Petal) and a run scoring double by Russell Bunch (Saltillo) gave the Indians 2-1 lead in the fourth.

LaBryant Siddell (Belden) added an insurance run for the Indians in the fifth on a single that score Jackson Lancaster (Corinth).

Tyler Smith (Oxford) picked up his first win of the season as he tossed five and third innings and struck out five. Lancaster picked up the save and struck out five while holing Calhoun hitless in one and two thirds innings.

Game 2: Indians 3, Calhoun 2 (8-Innings)

The Indians fell behind in the opening frame of game two as Calhoun took a 2-0 lead off a two-run home run to left.

In the bottom of the first, the Indians were able to cut the lead in half as Lancaster, who reached on an error and stole second, scored on a wild pitch.

The score remained 2-1 over the next five and a half innings even though both teams had scoring chances. With the Indians down to their final three outs they quickly loaded the bases and forced a pitching change with no outs.

Despite not being able to get a hit with the bases loaded, the Indians were able to tie the game as Lane Domino (Fulton) scored on a ground out to forced extra innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Indians loaded the bases once again and Ray Sandroni (Tupelo) lifted a ball to center field that was deep enough to score Siddell on the sacrifice fly and pick up the 3-2 walk off win.

Kyle Crigger (Corinth) picked up the win after coming in releif in the seventh and David Rowland (Florence, Ala.) set up the win by throwing four and two thirds innings of relief and struck out five.

The Indians will host Columbia State (Tenn.) Community College Tuesday at 1 p.m.
