Austin King signs Alabama State

FULTON, Miss. – ICC sophomore pitcher Austin King has signed to continue his career at Alabama State University.

"It's a great honor and blessing to be able to continue my career," King said. "The program at ASU is a good fit for, me and I loved the city(Montgomery), campus and the coaches, but I wouldn't have got to this point without all my teammates and coaches."

The Fulton native finished his freshman year with a 6-3 record and a team-best 3.57 ERA. He had team second 62 strikeouts and averaged 9.62 strikeouts per game over 58 innings of work.

"Austin was a big part of our success last season," said ICC head coach Rick Collier. "He's a strong guy who works hard in the weight room and is going to be able to go to ASU with three strong pitches, a lot of innings under his belt and will be in the running to be their weekend guy."

King helped the Indians (33-17) advance to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament for the first time since 2012 and earn the program's highest-ever ranking at No. 2 in March.

He will join the Hornets who compete in the SWAC, after wrapping up what could be another successful season this spring.

"My freshman season was great, and we made a great run," said King. "This season should be even better, and I'm ready to get a ring."

King and the Indians will start their 2019 season in early February against Snead State (Ala.) Community College.
