Indians season ends at Region 23 Tournament

EUNICE, La. – After an intense extra inning battle with LSU-Eunice that ended after midnight, the Indians had a quick turnaround playing Mississippi Gulf Coast less than 12 hours later in an NJCAA Region 23 Tournament elimination game.

The Indians (33-17) were unable to overcome mistakes and the hot bat of Gulf Coast as they fell 14-1 in fiving innings to end the tribe's season.

After a scoreless first frame, Gulf Coast scored six runs in both the second and third and then added a pair in the fourth to take a 14-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, Justin Medlin (Ripley) reached on an error and Connor Lewis(Corinth) doubled to score Medlin and put the Indians on the board.

The Indians scattered four hit in the contest highlighted by Lewis' double. Jackson Lancaster (Corinth), Hunter Nabors(Montevallo, Ala.) and Russell Bunch(Saltillo) picked up singles.

The loss ended the Indians season where they made program history earning a No. 2 national ranking and could make even more history next season with numerous freshmen returning next season.
