MILLINGTON, Tenn. - Hunter Nabors (Montevallo, Ala.) and Russell Bunch (Saltillo) each had a pair of hits to help the No. 8 ICC sweep Southwest Tennessee Community College with an 8-7 Game 2 win that nearly slipped away from the Indians.
Leading 8-1, the Indians saw the Saluqis (4-18) plate six runs in the sixth before putting the potential game-winning run on second after loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Sam Harrington (Mooreville) replaced Justin Medlin (Ripley) on the mound and struck out the final Southwest Tennessee looking at a 3-2 fastball to help the Indians' escape with the one-run victory and pick up his fourth save of the season.
ICC (14-2) scored two runs when Drew Thomas (Nesbit) walked and scored on a sacrifice fly by Bunch and Nabors doubled before scoring on a ground out by Jackson Lancaster (Corinth) in the top of the second.
The Indians added two more runs in the third and fourth inning. Connor Lewis (Corinth) scored on a sacrifice fly by Nabors and Justin Medlin (Ripley) scored a single by Bunch in the third. Trey DeSantis (Laurel) reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Medlin before Lewis scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.
Southwest Tennessee made it a 6-1 game in the bottom of the fourth when Cameron Pleasant beat the throw home on a ground out to first by Logan Roberts to plate the run and avoid an inning-ending double play.
ICC answered with two more runs in the fifth to bully their way to an 8-1 advantage. Nabors singled and scored on a double by Bunch, who advanced to third on the throw home. Lancaster lifted a fly ball to center to plate Bunch.
Austin King (Fulton) got the start and eventual win to improve to 3-0 on the year. King made quick work of the Saluqis by striking out three and walking one of the seven batters he faced in two innings of hitless work.
The Indians used seven pitchers in the game to have a full slate of arms ready for their conference opener against No. 16 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (16-2) on Saturday in Fulton.
