FULTON, Miss. – Down 7-3, the Indians rallied to score a combined nine runs in the fifth and sixth inning to earn a doubleheader spilt with a 12-9 game two win.
The Indians (12-2) found themselves trailing early as the Warhawks plated two run in the opening frame, but the tribe was able to tie it up on RBI singles by Justin Medlin (Ripley) and LaBryant Siddell (Belden).
However, the visiting Warhawks tallied two more runs in the top of the second to regain the lead.
After Drew Thomas (Nesbit) plated a run in the third and a three run fourth by Calhoun, the Indians trailed 7-3 in almost a mirror image of game one.
A one out double by Thomas, who scored after two wild pitches, sparked a rally in the fifth. Drake Wallace (Amory) reached on an error to score a run and a two run double by Trey DeSantis (Laurel) tied the game at 7-7.
Kyle Crigger (Corinth) then gave the Indians their first lead of the day with a two run scoring single.
Calhoun quickly regained the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth, but in the bottom half, the Indians took advantage of two hit batters and an error to loaded the bases with no outs.
Bases loaded walks by Ray Sandroni (Tupelo) and Connor Lewis (Corinth) followed by Cason Milliorn (Olive Branch) scoring on a passed ball to give the Indians a 12-9 lead.
Calhoun didn't go down quietly as they picked up three hits in the final inning, but a Sam Harrington (Mooreville) caught the final batter looking for game ending strikeout.
During the doubleheader with Calhoun the NJCAA rankings were relased and the Indians jumped to No. 7.
The nationally ranked Indians will hit the road during spring break for a doubleheader at Southwest Tennessee Tuesday, March 13 beginning at 1 p.m.
