FULTON, Miss. – Lightning struck twice for the Indians in the form of Hunter Nabors in an extra-inning, non-conference 7-6 win over Mississippi Delta Community College in Game 2 on Friday.
After driving in the game-winning run on a walk-off single to center in extra innings in the first game of the day, Nabors (Montevallo, Ala.) came through for the Indians (8-0) with a walk-off single to left in extra innings in the night cap.
LaBryant Siddell (Tupelo) started the bottom of the eighth inning by reaching on a full-count walk before advancing into scoring position on a ground out by Connor Lewis (Corinth). Nabors drove the first pitch he saw to left field to send the ICC faithful into a frenzy with a second dramatic win in extra innings over the Trojans (5-3) on the day.
Nabors finished the game 2-for-4 with a RBI to finish the doubleheader going 4-for-9 with 2 RBI.
Trailing 2-0, the Indians rattled off five runs in the bottom of the third to take their first lead of the game.
Lewis started the inning with a solo homer to left. Ray Sandroni (Tupelo) drew a one-out walk and stole second before Kyle Crigger (Corinth) reached on a two-out walk. Justin Medlin (Ripley) put the Indians up 3-2 on a double to the gap in left-center to score Sandroni and Crigger. Drew Thomas (Nesbit) and Drake Wallace (Amory) reach walked and scored when Siddell reached on a throwing error by the third baseman to give the Indians a 5-2 lead.
Delta answered with runs in the fourth and fifth innings to make it a 5-4 game in favor of the Indians, but ICC to a 6-4 lead in the bottom half of the fifth on a double by Siddell to plate Wallace, who doubled in the previous at-bat.
The Trojans tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. The Indians went three up, three down in the bottom half of the inning.
ICC put the potential game-winning run on in the bottom of the seventh when Thomas reached on a two-out single to center, but Delta got a ground ball to second to force the game into extra frames.
Delta put a runner on first with one out to start the eighth, but a strikeout by Braden Ellis (Saltillo) and a pop out to Wallace in right ended the threat and opened the door for more extra-inning heroics for the Indians.
Ellis picked up his first win of the season after giving up a pair of hits and striking out four with no walks in 2.2 scoreless innings of work in relief of starter Austin King (Fulton). King gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits and no walks to go along with 4 strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
The Indians are scheduled to travel to Millington, Tenn. to take on Southwest Tennessee Community College on Tuesday at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. – weather pending.
