Nabors' Game 1 heroics lifts Indians by Delta, 10-9, in extra innings

FULTON, Miss. – Hunter Nabors (Montevallo, Ala.) ripped an 0-1 offering with bases loaded to score Cason Milliorn (Olive Branch) on a walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Indians a thrilling 10-9 non-conference win over Mississippi Delta Community College on Friday.

The Indians (7-0) rushed out to an 8-0 lead over the Trojans (5-2) after a five-run bottom of the third inning.

Kyle Crigger (Corinth) smashed a home run to left and Drake Wallace (Amory) scored Drew Thomas (Nesbit) and Kyle Weaver (Courtland) on a single to center to take a 3-0 in the bottom of the first.

Crigger went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run, a RBI and a home run. Wallace finished the game 3-for-4 with a walk, 2 runs and 2 RBI.

Connor Lewis (Corinth) ripped a bases-loaded single to left to score Weaver before Wallace scored when Donari Herron (Southaven) was hit by a pitch to give the Indians a 5-0 lead with the bases full of Indians with no outs in the third. Jackson Lancaster (Corinth) roped a one-out single to center field to plate Milliorn. Thomas capped off the five-run inning with a two-out single to left to push across Herron and Lancaster.

Lewis was 3-for-4 with a RBI.

Delta got a pair of runs back on a throwing error at third and added another run on a single by Ty Richie to cut the Indians' lead to 8-4 in the top of the fourth. The Indians got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a double by Russell Bunch (Saltillo) that scored Wallace.

The Trojans' rallied continued in the top of the fifth inning. Dawson Ivey singled and scored on an error before Cade Blanchard scored on a ground out and Will Godfrey scored Markarius Lee on a double to right-center.

Delta completed the rally to tie the game, 9-9, in the top of the sixth inning on a double to left by Lee.

The Trojans put the potential game-winning run in scoring position in the top of the seventh but the Indians got out of the inning when Parker Lane lined into a double play at second. The Indians got a runner in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning before leaving him stranded on a pop out to left field.

Wallace started the bottom of the eighth with a single to left-center and advanced to second when Milliorn reached on an error. The Indians attempted to play small ball on a bunt attempt, but Delta retired Wallace at third while allowing Lewis to reach on a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning.

Bunch reached on a one-out error to set the stage of Nabors late game heroics.  

ICC used six pitchers in the extra-inning win. Crigger picked up his first win of the season after striking out one and walking another batter in 2.2 innings of scoreless and hitless work.
