Indians roll in Game 1 at Columbia State, 11-5

COLUMBIA, Tenn. – Drew Thomas (Nesbit), Connor Lewis (Corinth), and Cason Milliorn (Olive Branch) each homered in the Indians (5-0) 11-5 Game 1 win over Columbia State (Tenn.) Community College on Tuesday.

ICC took a 6-0 lead in the top of the first when Thomas and Lewis both smashed three-run home runs. The Chargers (5-5-1) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 6-2 contest.

Thomas finished the game 2-for-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

The Indians picked up a pair of runs in the top of the third when Milliorn and Lewis drew back-to-back walks and scored on a single to left-center by Hunter Nabors (Montevallo, Ala.).

Milliorn went 2-for-3 with a walk and 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.

Columbia State made things interesting after scoring two runs in the fourth and another in the fifth, but Milliorn smashed the third three-run home run of the game in the top of the seventh to give the Indians the 11-5 victory.

The Indians had 9 hits with 5 going for extra bases in the win.

Kris Peet (Olive Branch) improved to 2-0 on the year after giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits while striking out 6 and walking 1 in 3.2 innings of work. Grant Johnson (Smithville) surrendered 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings of relief.
