FULTON, MS – The NJCAA Region 23 Playoffs opened Thursday night, and the hosting Itawamba Community College baseball team didn't get off to the start they had hoped as they fell 15-2 in five innings to Pearl River Community College.

Pearl River jumped out to an early lead as they plated six runs in the top of the first, but the Indians (30-15) answered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a RBI double by Tyreque Reed (Houlka) and run scoring single by Keith Stepter (Hernando).

After a scoreless second inning, Pearl River scored nine unanswered runs to pick up the run-rule victory in five innings.

The Indians were held to six hits in the contest and Reed led the tribe going 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI.

Game two of the best-of-three series is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday with game three to follow if necessary. Watch live at LetsGoICCTV.com/blue.
