FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College came up just short in game one of their doubleheader with East Mississippi Community College Wednesday after the Lions hit a grand slam in the sixth to pick up the 8-5 victory.

The Indians (28-13, 15-10 MACJC) gave up two runs in the opening frame but answered with there of their own in the bottom half to a take a 3-2 lead. 

Tyreque Reed (Houlka) put the Indians on the board with deep solo home run to center and Cody Pate (Amory) drove in two runs on a single.

The Lions would tie the game in the second and then regain the lead in the third, but the Indians tied the contest in the fourth as Ben Seay (Mooreville) scored on a sacrifice fly by Russ Payne (Fulton).

In the top of the sixth, the Lions loaded the bases after a pair of singles and a walk and their third basemen Ja'Cody Cole lifted the ball over the fence for a grand slam, giving EMCC an 8-4 lead.

The Indians pushed across a run in the eighth on a RBI single by Payne, but were unable to force extra innings.

Kaleb Barnes (Pontotoc) led the Indians with three hits in the game and Bryan Malone added two hits of his own.
