BOONEVILLE, MS – The nationally ranked Itawamba Community College baseball program and Northeast Mississippi Community College renewed their rivalry on the diamond Wednesday and the Indians took advantage of a four runs seventh inning to pick up the 6-4 victory in game one.

The Indians (21-4, 8-1 MACJC) held a slim 2-1 lead after six innings in the nine inning contest, but a three run home run by Tyreque Reed (Houlka) and a bases loaded walk by Kaleb Barnes (Pontotoc) gave the tribe a comfortable 6-1 lead.

Northeast cut the lead to 6-2 by scoring a run in the eighth, but began to rally in the ninth pushing across two runs to cut the lead to two. However, Trenton Stringer (Stinger) entered and threw three pitches to secure the win for the Indians.

Starting pitcher Jon Morgan Payne (Belmont) improved to 4-0 this season and struck out nine while allowing only two hits in six innings and Stringer picked up his first save of year.

Reed's three run home run proved to be the difference in the game, but Austin Carpenter (Belmont) went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Indians in hitting.
