FULTON, MS – The No. 9 Itawamba Community College Indians saw a comfortable lead disappear in game two, but were able to hold on to defeat Pearl River Community College 7-6 and complete the sweep.

Both team came out swinging in game two and the Wildcats pushed across two runs in the top half but the Indians answered with three runs in the bottom highlight by a runs scoring double by Austin Carpenter (Belmont), who also scored on a passed ball, and RBI single by Bryan Malone (Belmont).

The Indians (10-4, 7-1 MACJC)  then scored four unanswered runs to hold a 7-2 lead but similar to game one, the Wildcats had a late rally, scoring four runs to cut the lead to one run.

With two on and two out in the final frame, Coach Rick Collier went to sophomore right hander Blake Appel (Gulfport) who needed only three pitches to end the threat and give the Indians the 7-6 win and the sweep.

With the bull pen able to preserve the win, Steffon Moore (West Point) picked up the win to improve to 4-2 this season as he went five and third and struck out seven.

The Indians currently sit in second place in the conference standings behind the number one team in the nation, Jones County Junior College, who they will take on Saturday, April 8.
