FULTON, MS – No. 10 Itawamba Community College overcame a rough start in game one of their conference doubleheader with Holmes Community College to pick up an 8-5 victory.

The Indians (15-4, 2-1 MACJC) fell behind 3-0 as Holmes took advantage of five walks and three hit batsmen, but the tribe battled and took the lead in the bottom of the third.

A bases loaded walk by Kaleb Barnes (Pontotoc) pushed across the Indians first run and they pulled within one, 3-2 after a ground out by Russ Payne (Fulton) that allowed Austin Carpenter (Belmont) to score.

Ben Seay (Mooreville), who finished 2-for-4, capped off the four run inning with two run scoring single to give the Indians a 4-3.

The Indians would extend their lead with another four run inning in the bottom of the fifth frame on three straight run scoring singles through the six hole by Drake Wallace (Amory), Hagan Box (French Camp) and Tyreque Reed (Houlka), who drove in two runs on his base hit.

Holmes plated a pair of runs in the before sophomore Blake Appel (Gulfport) retired the final nine batters in order, while striking out five, to secure the 8-5 victory for the Indians.

Klay Houston (Fulton) picked up the win as he entered with two outs in the first frame and threw five and third of relief and struck out three.
