Indians fall to Gulf Coast in game two, 9-5

PERKINSTON, MS – After picked up a 4-1 win in game one, No. 11 Itawamba Community College fell 9-5 to No. 13 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in game two despite outhitting the Bulldogs.

The Indians (14-4, 1-1 MACJC) picked up nine hits in the seven inning affair that pushed across their five runs, but four errors cost the tribe two runs during a three run fourth inning.

One inning earlier the Indians tied the game at 2-2, but the Bulldogs took advantage of back-to-back leadoff walks to drive in three runs.

The Indians trailed 8-2 but loaded the basses in the fifth and pushed across two runs as Kaleb Barnes (Pontotoc) hit into a fielder's choice and Russ Payne (Fulton) picked up a RBI on a ground out.

Over the final two frames, the teams exchanged runs, giving the Bulldogs the 9-5 victory.

Hunter Nabors (Montevallo, AL) was the lone Indians with multiple hits as he went 2-for-3.

The Indians will host Holmes Community College Wednesday, March 22 for anorther conference doubleheader against some Bulldogs. First pitch at Roy Cresap Field is set for 3 p.m.
