BOAZ, AL – The Itawamba Community College baseball team struggled to find their swing in game one against Snead State Community College, but were able to earn their fifth straight win after resorting to small to pick up the 2-1 victory.

The Indians (7-2) were able to pick up only two hits against Snead State's left hander Billy Todorowski but took advantage of walks and sacrifices to push across their two runs.

Back-to-back walks by Russ Payne (Fulton) and Trenton Stringer (Stringer) started the third inning and an outstanding sacrifice bunt by Ben Seay (Mooreville) put the runners in scoring position. Payne then crossed the plate for the first run of the game on a Hagan Box (French Camp) ground out.

Sophomore catcher Bryan Malone (Belmont) was the first Indian to get a hit in the contest, but it was his sacrifice bunt on a squeeze play in the sixth that pushed across what would be the difference in the game.

For five innings, the Parsons were shut down offensively by the combo of JT Salter (Bay Minette, AL) and Sam Harrington (Mooreville). Salter threw three and two thirds without allowing a hit and Harrington came in striking out the first four batters he faced.

The Parsons picked up their first hit in the bottom of the sixth, and broke up the shutout in the bottom of the seventh on a lead off homerun by Amos Willingham. With two outs, the Parsons Zontairous Scofield hit a single to left that could have tied the game but sophomore outfielder Keith Stepter (Hernando) threw a bullet to Malone at the plate foe the final out of the game.

Salter improves to 2-0 this season and picked up three strikeouts in the 2-1 game one victory while Harrington picked up five strikeouts.
