WESSON, MS – In the final doubleheader of the season for Itawamba Community College's baseball program, the Indians completed a sweep of Copiah-Lincoln Community College by taking game two 8-2 Saturday.

The Indians (26-18, 14-14 MACJC) jumped out to an early lead after Delvin Zinn (Pontotoc) reached on a three base throwing error that allowed two runs to score in the top of the third.

A sacrifice fly by Timothy Rowe (Hernando) scored Zinn and gave the Indians a 3-0 lead that was preserved in the bottom of the inning by a big double play.

Dalton Hudspeth (Louisville) added to the Indians with a RBI double in the fourth, but the Wolves (10-31, 4—20 MACJC) answered with two runs, cutting the Indians lead to 4-2 after four complete.

In the fifth, the Indians pulled away scoring four runs on an Austin Carpenter (Belmont) double and a Zinn single.

The 8-2 lead was enough as John Morgan Payne (Belmont) and Stephon Moore (West Point) combined to keep the Wolves scoreless in the final three innings and complete the sweep.

Payne improves to 6-4 this season and Moore wrapped up an impressive week allowing only four hits in nine innings of work.

The Indians, who started April last in the conference, currently sits in sixth place in the MACJC standings after winning 10 of their last 13 games.

The late push by the Indians earned them a spot in the MACJC Playoffs, but they will not know who their first round opponent is until the other teams finished up on Monday and Tuesday. However, they do know that will be on the road for the best of three series that begins Friday, May 6.
