Big innings powers Baseball to run-rule win over Co-Lin

WESSON, MS – An offensive explosion of 11 runs over two innings powered the Itawamba Community College baseball team to a 16-6 run-rule victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College in game one Saturday.

The Indians (25-18, 13-14 MACJC) were knotted with the Wolves at one after two complete in game one of the conference doubleheader, but exploded for 11 runs over the next two frames.

Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) started a five run rally in the top of the third with a double to drove in two runs and Dalton Hudspeth (Louisville) followed with a two run scoring single. Delvin Zinn (Pontotoc) wrapped up the big inning with a RBI single to give the Indians a 6-1 lead.

After the Wolves (10-30, 4—19 MACJC) pushed across a run in the bottom of the third, the Indians answered with six run in fourth.

Timothy Rowe (Hernando) singled to start the inning but he didn't stay on base long as Tyreque Reed (Houlka) crushed a mammoth home run and then Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) smashed one out of the park for back-to-back home runs.

Austin Carpenter (Belmont) followed Wheeler with a solo shot for the third straight bomb, but the Indians were not down with the long ball just yet as Russ Payne (Fulton) hit the fourth consecutive home run to give the Indians an 11-2 lead.

The Indians added another run in the inning on a bases loaded walk by Reed and held a 10 run lead. However, the Wolves plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 12-4.

After an hour and a half rain delay, the Indians pushed across four runs over the next three innings to cruise to a 16-6 run-rule victory in seven innings.

JT Salters (Bay Minette, AL) benefitted from the run support and picked up the win to improve to 5-1 this season.
