GOODMAN, MS – Two home runs by freshman Tyreque Reed (Houlka) set the tone early in game two and powered Itawamba Community College's baseball team to an 8-2 game two win and sweep over Holmes Community College.

After winning game one and putting themselves in a tie in the conference standings with the Bulldogs, the Indians (24-18, 12-14 MACJC), who played small ball in game one, turned the long ball early as Reed blasted a two run home run in the opening frame.

The Bulldogs answered in a run in the bottom of the first, but Reed struck again in the top of the third with a solo shot to give the Indians a 3-1 lead.

Sophomore Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) extended the Indians lead in the fifth with a two run scoring double and Timothy Rowe (Hernando) followed with his own two RBI double in the sixth.

Reed, who finished 2-for-3, then pushed across the Indians final run by picking up his fourth RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly.

The Bulldogs managed to plate a run in the final frame, but were unable to put together a rally to overcome the big lead, giving the Indians the 8-2 win and the sweep.

While Reed set the pace for the offense, Stephon Moore (West Point) controlled the game with his complete game two-hitter where he struck out 6 and allowed only one earned run to improve to 2-1 this season.

The road sweep propelled the Indians, who started the day one spot out of playoff contention, into seventh place in the conference standings. However, the Indians haven't secured a playoff spot yet and still have one MACJC twin bill in the regular season.

To wrap up the regular season, the Indians will travel Copiah-Lincoln Community College Saturday, April 30. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 pm in Wesson.
