POPLARVILLE, MS – The Itawamba Community College baseball team dropped a heart-breaker on the road in game one of a MACJC doubleheader Saturday as they saw an eight run lead disappear and fell 11-10 in ten innings.

The Indians (14-13, 2-9 MACJC) jumped out to a big lead in the third inning by sending 13 batters to the plate, driving in nine runs to give them a comfortable 9-1 lead after three innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Wildcats (19-12, 5-8) began to chip away at the Indians lead with back-to-back home runs that plated three runs and then added two more runs in the following frame to cut the lead down to 9-6.

The Wildcats would tie the contest in the sixth and then take a one run advantage in the eighth. With their lead turned into a deficit, the Indians had to put together a rally of their own. That rally came with one swing of the bat as Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) led off the ninth with a solo home run over the centerfield fence to tie the contest at 10-10.

With neither team able to take the lead in the ninth, the game went to extra innings, but the Wildcats would complete their comeback with a single down the left field line to pick up the 11-10 win.

In the Indians big innings, Timothy Rowe (Hernando) and Wheeler hit back-to-back doubles to start the scoring and Bryan Malone (Belmont) and Keith Stepter (Hernando) followed with RBI singles. Kaleb Barnes (Ponotoc) scored on a passed ball in the inning and Devlin Zinn (Pontotoc) and Hagan Box (French Camp) wrapped up the scoring with back-to-back singles.
