Indians knock off No. 17 Northwest, 7-6

FULTON, MS – The Indians knocked off No. 17 Northwest Mississippi Community College 7-6 in first of two conference games at Roy Cresap Field on Wednesday.
The Indians (9-8, 3-6 MACJC) went up 2-0 in the bottom of the first inning when Tanner Poole (Amory) started the game with a double and scored on a single by Brayden Owen (Tupelo), who later scored on a sac fly by Seth Young (Olive Branch).
Timothy Rowe (Hernando) singled and scored on a ground out by Young and Hayden Williams (Amory) doubled and scored on a wild pitch to give the Indians a 4-0 lead in the second.
The Rangers (13-7, 6-3 MACJC) and Indians traded runs in the fourth and sixth innings. Williams singled home Poole in the bottom of the fourth and Poole started the sixth with a solo shot to left-center to give ICC a 6-2 lead.
Northwest tacked on a run in the seventh on a solo homer from LeeMarcus Boyd before rattling off three runs in the top of the eight to tie the game at six all.
Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) entered the game and ripped a single to left on the first pitch and replaced on the bags by Drake Rowton (Marion, AR), who advanced to third after a one-out single by Owen and scored on a wild pitch to plate the eventual game-winning run.
Relief pitcher John Peugh (Mooreville) went one-plus innings and surrendered only two hits while keeping the nationally-ranked Rangers off the board to help secure the game one victory for the Indians.
Poole finished the game three-of-five with a double, RBI, and three runs scored while Owen, Williams, Cody Young (Collierville, TN), and Russ Johnson (Hatley) finished the game with two hits each – Williams adding a double to his hit total.
TJ Watson (Dallas, GA) got the start for the Indians and give up two runs, one earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out six in six innings of work before being relieved by Drew Carter (Tupelo).
