FULTON, MS – The No.2 Hinds Community College Eagles had their perfect record in jeopardy Saturday afternoon against the Itawamba Community College Indians, but two final inning errors kept a zero in their loss column with an 8-6 win.

The Eagles (15-0, 2-0 MACJC) sent 13 batters to the plate in the final frame that they entered down 6-0. Two errors on plays in the infield, which could have ended the threat and hand the Eagles their first loss, kept the rally alive and accounted for three runs. When the top of the seventh came to a close the Eagles found themselves with a two run lead.

Sophomore Russ Johnson (Hatley), who hit 5-7 with four RBIs in the division opining doubleheader, had the hot bat for the Indians throughout the division showdown as he drove in four runs and scored another.

The Indians (6-4, 0-2 MACJC) knew that the Eagles would make them pay for any mistakes and they played a flawless ballgame behind starting pitcher Trenton Stringer (Stringer), who retired 11 consecutive batters in the mid innings. Stringer threw six and two thirds, allowing six hits while striking out four in the no decision outing.

After the Eagles' late rally, they carried the momentum into the bottom of the inning striking out the side to remain unbeaten and pick up the sweep.

The Indians will step out of division play on Wednesday as they travel to Millington, TN for a mixed doubleheader against Southwest Tenn. and Calhoun (AL).
