Indians fall to Eagles in division opener

FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College Indians opened MACJC Division play Saturday against the nationally ranked and unbeaten Hinds Community College Eagles. The Indians kept themselves in striking distance but were unable to pick up the win, falling 11-8.

The Indians (6-3, 0-1 MACJC) out hit the No. 2 Eagles with solid performances at the plate by Tanner Poole (Amory) and Gable Butler (Iuka), who both picked up two RBIs, but the Eagles took advantage of three ICC errors and plated six runs in the top of the fifth for a seven run lead.

The Indians answered with five runs over the next two innings to pull within three runs, 9-6, but the Eagles tacked on two insurance runs in the seventh to extend their lead. In the final frame, the Indians picked up two runs as Bryce Williams (Ridgeland) scored on a wild pitch and Poole singled for his second RBI of the contest. However, the Eagles kept their composure and to pick up the final out and the win.

TJ Watson (Dallas, GA) suffered his second loss and is 2-2 this year.
