Indians drop two at home against MS Delta

FULTON, MS – The Indians suffered a pair of home division loses to Mississippi Delta on Saturday.

Game 1 – Mississippi Delta 6 Indians 5 (8 innings)

The Indians took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Ethan Gill (Pontotoc) doubled and scored on a single by Andy Bowman (Memphis, TN) but Delta answered with a run in the top of the third and three-run home run in the fourth and another run in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead.

ICC got a run back in the bottom half of the fourth and fifth innings when Gill scored on a sac fly by Hayden Williams (Amory) and Tanner Poole (Amory) scoring on a single by Drew Wheeler (Mooreville) to cut the Trojans lead to 5-3.

Cameron Coker (Germantown, TN) singled to score Gill and Williams to tie the game 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Indians left runners on the corners in the bottom of the eight allowing Delta to pick up the one-run victory in extra innings.

Bowman finished 3-for-4 with a RBI while Gill and Williams both went 2-for-3 as the Indians had 11 hits in the Game 1 loss.

Game 2 – Mississippi Delta 11 Indians 6

Trailing 5-0, the Indians picked up four runs in the bottom of the third when Bowman, Williams and Gill scored on a pair of Delta errors before a double to center by Poole scored Gable Butler (Tishomingo) and tied the game in the fourth Bowman scored on a sac fly by Williams.

Delta answered with a run in the top of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead, but the Indians countered with a run in the bottom half of the inning when Poole scored on an error.

The Trojans broke open the tie contest with four runs in the sixth and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to earn the sweep with an 11-6 Game 2 win.

Bowman went 2-for-4 with a run scored as the Indians could only manage 7 hits to Delta's 14 in the loss.
