Indians run-rule Lake Land in Game 1, 12-2

FULTON, MS - The Indians exploded for eight runs in the second inning on their way to a 12-2 Game 1 win over Lake Land in five innings on Saturday.

Russ Johnson (Hatley) drew a bases-loaded walk to score Ethan Gill (Pontotoc) and Byrce Williams (Ridgeland) was hit by a pitch during the next at-bat to push across Tanner Poole (Amory) to give the Indians a 2-0 lead before Luke Gibbs (Oxford) reached on a fielder's choice to score Gable Butler (Tishomingo) and Drew Wheeler (Mooreville) singled to plate Johnson.

Austin Welch (Hamilton) reached on a fielder's choice to score Williams to put the Indians up 5-0 before Gill returned to the plate for the second time in the inning and blasted a two-run bomb after Gibbs stole home.

The Indians added another run in the fourth when Gill walked and scored on a triple by Tanner Poole (Amory) before invoking the mercy rule with three runs in the bottom of the fifth when Anthony Mallard (Verona) scored on single by Wheeler, Chris Conard (Water Valley) singled and scored on a single by Andy Bowman (Memphis) and Wheeler scored on a sac fly by Welch.

Poole went 3-for-3 as the Indians pounded out 11 hits in five innings.

CJ Hodges (Winona) picked up the win giving up 2 earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six batters.
