Aldridge, Gill sign to play baseball for the Indians

Itawamba Community College head baseball coach Rick Collier announced the first two signees to his 2012-13 roster as Tupelo's Ben Aldridge and Ethan Gill of Pontotoc both signed National Letters of Intent on Tuesday.

Aldridge, a pitcher, had a 4-1 record with 3 saves in 20 appearances with a 1.94 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 54 innings of work during his junior campaign with the Gold Wave.

"I'm really excited and ready to get over here," said Aldridge. "There is a good group already over here and I think I'll just be able to add to it and get better."

"I've seen Ben play dozens of times and he has a great fastball with a run that's unbelievable," said Collier. "He gets a lot of outs by getting in on the hands of the hitters and I'm excited about him coming in and being part of the pitching rotation."

Gill, a third baseman, batted .407 with .539 on-base percentage and .780 slugging percentage with 22 runs, 22 RBI on 24 hits with 6 home runs and 4 doubles for the Warriors last season.

"It feels great," said Gill. "I'm ready to work hard this year and be apart of a good program next year."

"Ethan's a big strong young man that plays third base, hits with power and has a good glove," said Collier. "We're excited about getting him over here in our lineup."

The Indians open the 2011-12 campaign on February 11 with a home doubleheader against John C Calhoun Community College.
